One Tribe – AFLQ Football Update

30 April 2015

Rounds 1, 2 and 3 of the 2015 season are done and a few Tribal teams have charged out of the blocks with some big wins. Aspley’s NEAFL side gave their back to back premiership aspirations a huge boost with 3 wins from 3 games. Firstly a 139-point win over Eastlake, followed by a14 point win over the Gold Coast Suns Reserves and snuck home against Sydney Uni by 3 points on the weekend.

footy is back

In the QAFL, Palm Beach kicked their season off with wins in both grades over Broadbeach in round 1, followed by an unfortunate result in round 2 going down to Sandgate but back in the winner’s circle in round 3 beating Mt Gravatt by a goal.

Big improvers UQ have opened their 2015 account with a 1 – point victory over Surfers Paradise in round 2, although they received a touch up by Morningside on the weekend they are showing real signs of an exciting season ahead.

Round 2 of the QFA North and South Competitions saw Tribal vs Tribal. In the north we had Maroochydore v Aspley and in the south we had Kenmore v Coorparoo. Safe to say both those round 2 games would have been beautiful to watch based on their playing gear alone….

In the QFA North, Maroochydore Roosstarted over their campaign with victories in round 1 and 2 by 76 points and 28 points, only to be pipped by 4 points on the weekend. Maroochydore’s reserves started with 2 massive wins but unfortunately losing to Noosa on the weekend as well. Caloundra opened their 2015 account in both grades with wins over Nambour on the weekend. Seniors won by a solid 69 points and reserves dominated their opponents to win by 151 points.

Over to the QFA South Competition, Coorparoo started off with a big round 1 victory over Alex Hills winning by 114 points. However, just crawled over the line against Kenmore in round 2, luckily they had a bye this weekend to recover.

Kenmore and Robina got their seasons going with wins in both grades in round 3 after slow starts. Both contenders last year and I’m sure will look to be there at the pointy end again this year.

Another side off to a great start and chasing back to back glory in the QAFA (A) is the mighty Griffith Moorooka Roosters seniors collecting 3 solid wins to kick of their 2015 campaign, most recently pumping Wynnum by 61 on the weekend. Their reserves snuck home in a tight 1 point victory to make it the double on Anzac Day. Saving the best for last, the South East Suns (formerly known as Logan Cobras) also from the QAFA (A) competition have also started the season 3-0. Griffith Moorooka the only side ahead of them on the ladder. It’s a tough job starting a club from scratch, so big ups to them for kicking off with three wins!

Bakers Creek In AFL Mackay are now 1 and 1, Eastern Swans solid with 2 good wins so far are looking like the team to beat in Mackay. Thuringowa Bulldogs in AFL Townsville are 3 and 1 after massive victory’slast weekend and this weekend winning by 82 points and a whopping 158 points the week prior!!Hopefully, signs of a big season for them.

In the QWAFL, unfortunately both UQ Red Lionesses and the Griffith Moorooka went down in their round 1 hit outs and then played each other in round 2 which saw UQ come out victors this time around. No doubt will both be massive improvers in 2015.

We also saw some of the Youth competitions kick off on the weekend and we will have more junior football starting this weekend along with the QWAFA competitions. TRIBAL HQ wishes all the best to everyone in their fixtures this weekend and good luck for the season.
